Update:The Wayans brothers could soon be headed back to the bargaining table to build a movie studio and theme park after an earlier agreement with the city ended with little progress on the project. An Oakland City Council committee planned Tuesday to consider an exclusive four-month negotiating agreement with a team led by Keenen Ivory Wayans to develop 70 acres on a run-down former Army base. An earlier 18-month agreement with brothers Keenen Ivory, Damon, Shawn and Marlon Wayans expired in May after the team failed to meet most deadlines. City officials said the new agreement will require the developers to meet a series of tight deadlines to ensure the project moves forward. "The biggest concern I have is that it's been a couple of years now," City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente said. "The longer we take, the longer we don't have jobs or tax revenues for the city." Keenen Ivory Wayans met with Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums last month to pitch the project, which would include a movie production studio, business park, retail village and luxury hotel. Developers said it would create more than 1,500 jobs in one of the city's poorest neighborhoods. info from hereAlsoMarlon has recently just hosted "Best of Comedia". It is part of the Comedia Festival presented by Visa. AlsoRemember when Damon walked out on that comedy gig? Well...he has apologized to his fans for leaving them like that. In a blog on hs myspace he says: "I apologize to my fans and friends for the el paso incident. i had great shows, standing ovations, and I felt the love for the people. However the owner of the club was being a racist prick and HOMIE DON'T PLAY THAT!
This wasn't about anything but principle and how I felt I should be treated.
Live, Love, Laugh"What do ya think?

Update:Marlon's birthday is on Monday, July 23! Also:The Oakland City Council has voted unanimously to approve a new four-month exclusive negotiating agreement with the Wayans brothers of television and movie fame to bring a film studio and entertainment center to the former Army base in West Oakland. City Councilman Larry Reid, a strong backer of the project, said today that it "will mean jobs and create a destination spot that will attract people from around the country to come to our city." After a committee meeting last week, actor-director Keenen Ivory Wayans said he and his brothers Marlon, Shawn and Damon want to develop an entertainment center in Oakland because they consider it to be "a sleeping giant" and "an urban center without a spark." Wayans, the creative mind behind "White Chicks," "Little Man" and "Scary Movie," said, "The community was the inspiration for this" and he wants the center to provide "opportunity, jobs, education and an outlet" for Oakland, particularly its youth. He said he hopes the center will make Oakland "an iconic destination." info from hereWhat do ya think? I'm glad that progress is finally showing. I can't wait to see the final project.

Update:Remember that film studio the Wayans were supposed to do in Oakland? Well...their developement team pulled out of negotiations. The reason was the Wayans team was concerned that a Port of Oakland expansion project would result in stacked shipping containers up to 15 stories high that would could block views of San Francisco Bay from their proposed business site. The team also was concerned that additional diesel fumes and pollution from ships wouldn't be a good mix with their project. Despite that, the city's spokesman said that the Wayans still want to do a developement in the area and to re-negotiate their deal. info from hereWhat do you think?
